Instagram Reels for Airbnb hosts: length, format and what to post
Keep walkthroughs under 90 seconds, captions away from the edges and every claim on the listing. Five reels from one listing, and a 68-second plan.
Instagram Reels for Airbnb hosts should be short vertical walkthroughs built from the listing itself: the rooms in the order a guest walks them, one listing fact per caption, and a length under 90 seconds. Shoot or export them at 9:16, keep your text away from the edges where Instagram's buttons sit, and make sure nothing in the reel promises more than the listing does.
You do not need a filming day for most of them. The photos and reviews on your listing already hold a month of reels if you cut them well.
The Instagram limits that shape a host's reel
Instagram's Reels feature page says you can record and edit reels of up to 20 minutes, but that reels over 3 minutes will not be recommended to new audiences. For a host, recommendation is the point: it is how people who have never heard of your place see it. Instagram's creator blog said on 21 January 2025 that US creators could now publish reels of up to 3 minutes in the Reels editor, and that previously only reels of up to 90 seconds were eligible for recommendation.
A walkthrough fits that comfortably. At six seconds a room, a ten-room house fills about a minute, which leaves space for an opening card and a review inside 90 seconds.
The frame matters as much as the length. Meta's ads guide for Instagram Reels recommends a 9:16 aspect ratio, MP4 or MOV files, and keeping 14% of the top, 35% of the bottom and 6% of each side free of text and logos. That guidance is written for ads, but it is a sensible margin for any reel, because the caption, username and buttons cover the same strips of the screen. Put your captions in the middle band.
Watch the soundtrack as well. The same Instagram page warns that downloading your reel will not save music you added from the Instagram music library. If you add a track inside Instagram, keep your original export somewhere safe so you can post it again elsewhere.
Five reels you can make from the listing alone
Each of these uses photos and words that are already on your Airbnb listing, so none of them should contradict it.
- The full walkthrough. Outside first, then the living space, kitchen, bedrooms, bathroom and garden or terrace, with one caption per room. This is the reel you pin to the top of your profile.
- One room, one reason. Ten to fifteen seconds on the space guests mention most in reviews: the kitchen in a family let, or the garden in summer.
- The review reel. Your rating, then one real five-star review trimmed to a sentence or two, with the month it was written and the guest's name left out.
- What it sleeps. The beds, room by room, with captions taken from your listing's sleeping arrangements. Groups use it to work out who sleeps where.
- The seasonal re-cut. The same photos in a different order, leading with the fireplace in winter or the terrace in June, as long as the listing photos really show them.
Rotate them. Five reels from one listing, posted a week apart, cover a month and a bit without a single new photo.
Keep the reel and the listing saying the same thing
Write every caption from your listing's description, amenities or reviews. A reel that calls a box room a "cosy second bedroom" is the version a guest remembers when they arrive.
Be careful with your guest list too. Airbnb's Off-Platform and Fee Transparency Policy prohibits using guest contact information for marketing communications or signing guests up to contact lists, and it bans links that take people off Airbnb in listings or messages. Grow your following from the reels themselves, and do not message past guests asking them to follow you.
Leave the house number and street sign out of the frame. Your followers include people who will never book.
A worked plan for one listing
Take a three-bedroom cottage with 26 photos and 40 reviews. A 9:16 walkthrough could run like this:
- Opening card with the cottage's name and town: 4 seconds.
- Rating card: 4 seconds.
- Exterior: 6 seconds.
- Living room: 8 seconds.
- Kitchen: 8 seconds.
- Three bedrooms at 5 seconds each: 15 seconds.
- Bathroom: 5 seconds.
- Garden: 8 seconds.
- Review card: 6 seconds.
- Closing card: 4 seconds.
That comes to 68 seconds, inside the 90-second mark with room to spare. Post it in week one. Cut a 12-second garden reel from the same photos for week two, the review reel for week three and the bedrooms reel for week four. Export a 16:9 version of the full walkthrough at the same time for YouTube and your own booking site; the method for choosing frames and camera moves is in our guide to making an Airbnb video from your listing photos.
Make the vertical cut with ReelSieve
ReelSieve builds that walkthrough from your Airbnb listing link. It downloads every photo on the listing, scores each one for sharpness, exposure and colour, keeps the best frame of each room and plays the rooms in walking order, outside first, with up to three photos per room. Captions come from the listing's own features. The reel opens with your listing's name and town, shows a rating card when you have reviews, and ends with a real five-star guest review without the guest's name, then a closing card with a Book on Airbnb prompt and a Braivex.com credit.
Choose tutorial-style 9:16 for Reels, with full-screen photos and moving captions, or cinematic 16:9 for YouTube and your website. Every plan includes both styles. The finished reel and a smaller 720p copy land in your Google Drive, private until you share them. ReelSieve accepts Airbnb links only, or 8 to 40 of your own photos with a title and location, and it is not endorsed by or associated with Airbnb.
The first two videos are free, with no card, at up to 60 seconds each, so a free reel of the cottage above would come out a little shorter than the plan. Paid packs allow up to 90 seconds and are one-off payments in US dollars: $100 for 3 videos or $500 for 20, with credits that never expire. Make your first Reel on ReelSieve from the listing link you already have.
